Sharks struggle past Jaguares

It was not pretty but the Cell C Sharks did get a win over the Jaguares on Saturday when the beat them 18-13

At first the Sharks and Jaguares were just feeling each other out with no team making really making progress.

With the Jaguares on attack Cobus Reinach ripped the ball on attack from the Jaguares and ran 70 meters for the Sharks first try.

The Jaguares first points came from a scrum penalty to make the scores 5-3 for the Sharks. It took not long for the Jaguares to slot another penalty over to take the lead 6-5.

Not much got really going with both teams making too many mistakes but the Sharks did get a penalty for a shoulder challenge and took the lead back 8-6 after 29 min.

Some poor quality from both sides made the game hard to watch and not much to have cheered about, just too many mistakes.

The Sharks went into the break with a lead 0f 8-6.

The Second half started well for the Sharks as they kept pressure on Jaguares in their twenty-two with Esterhuizen going over for their second try.

That gave them a 13-6 lead early on.

The Sharks did a bit more on attack than the Jaguares and they also played more in their half as well but did not use the ball they got well at all.

The Jaguares received a yellow card for an early tackle when the Sharks was close to the line but were unable to take advantage of the penalty.

The Jaguares found line break with the result them going over the line. Although no evidence shown on replays the referee decided he was happy to be awarded.

That made it a 15-13 lead for Sharks with 63 min gone in the match.

The game went from bad to worst with 82 handling errors at the 76 minute of the match.

Sharks – Tries: Cobus Reinach, André Esterhuizen. Conversion: Curwin Bosch. Penalties: Bosch (2).
Jaguares – Try: Agustín Creevy. Conversion: Felipe Ezcurra. Penalties: Nicolás Sánchez (2).

  1. People should stop underestimating this Jaguares team. They are not the easy beats from last year and any win against them (doesn’t matter how scrappY) is a good win.

  2. @Craven:
    Agreed Craven
The Jags I was so excited about last year….
    Showed up this year.
South Americans for ya. Surprised these guys don’t miss their planes more often.
