Super Rugby Nabetragting – SA teams back to old habits

Round 9 just gave us more questions than answers. We had the Stormers that surprised all in beating the Aussie log leaders Rebels on Friday on the one end with the Sharks being humiliated at home by the Jaguares.

In between these two we had the Lions with another loss and the Bulls that bounce back against a struggling Reds.

The inconsistency of our South African teams must be a huge worry for Rassie Erasmus.

It think it is a question for the head doctors why we just can not get a team to perform for two weeks in a row.

How do you go from 42-5 the one week away from home to 51-7 at home?

The same can be asked for the Stormers. There may be some that will say they were in the games against the Blues, Hurricanes and Reds, but that is not really true.

They were in it because the other teams let them in not because they were playing well.

They had no structure, they had plan at the back and they look lost for most of the time and only brilliance from individuals kept them in those games.

Then they came on Friday and outplay the Rebels who is arguably one of the better teams in the competition, and they do this in the the Rebels back yard.

For the Lions, they have lost just too many with all the players that left the franchise last year and they will take time to rebuild with their youngsters.

Unfortunately for Swys, the South African public do not allow rebuilding and all they want is results.

We can not find much fault with the Bulls win, only to say that it was only the Reds, do not get carried away.

Me think the biggest problem for SA teams have been that we could and can not coupe and balance the players leaving and getting the new players in at this level.

Sometimes the leaving is just too many for coaches to fill with the new one’s coming through but there are some blame on coaches for being conservative in giving these youngsters proper runs.
