Liebenberg, 34 retired from the game in 2014 after he picked up a back injury playing for Western Province. He decided to call it a day and went back to Bloemfontein. According to Netwerk24, Liebenberg is considering a return to the game after he got a phone call from his old team-mate Vermeulen.
Vermeulen went under the knife just before the World Cup last year and urge Liebenberg to do the same and see specialist, Stephan Joubert who also operated on players like Willem Alberts and Bismarck Du Plessis. Liebenberg was also inspired by listening to his former Western Province and Stormers Captain, Jean De Villiers on a TV interview which was enough to inspire the hooker who played five test for the Springboks.
Liebenberg was operated on in October last year and is currently in training and if he passes fitness over the next few weeks, he may be pulling a Cheetah jersey over his head soon.
Liebenberg joined Western Province in 2006 from Griquas and played eight years for them
