Anton van Zyl’s career with French Club, Stade Francais, might be over before it even started.
Reports on French radio strations suggests that Anton van Zyl is amongst a host of ‘new’ signings for the French club, Stade Francais, who might be ‘released’ by the club in a desperate bid to fill a 6.6 million Euro hole in their budget or face administrative relegation by the French League’s financial watchdog, DNACG.
Stade was recently dumped into crisis when a deal with Canadian Foundation, FACEM, turned sour after they failed to produced a 12-million Euro investment promised to the club. It resulted in the club laying charges of fraud against the organisation which even resulted in arrests being made by French police.
This led to the club needing to find 6.6 million Euros to balance their books before their meeting (on Monday) with the French League’s financial watchdog DNACG, or face administrate relegation.
Since the sports ministry in France already made it clear that they cannot bail Stade out, one of the options of course is to cut their player budget, and the names of possible player’s that might suffer because of this include current Stade player and French international centre Mathieu Bastareaud, but also new recruits such as former All Blacks and Toulouse scrum-half Byron Kelleher, Chiefs hooker Aled de Malmanche and their latest signing, Stormers lock Anton Van Zyl.
