Varsity Cup moves into playoffs

Before Monday’s last round of matches, three semifinal spots already taken by Maties, Tuks and Pukke, leaving UCT, Wits and Shimlas to fight it out for the last spot.

That spot was taken by Shimlas who beat UJ in in Johannesburg. On a wet field they manage to beat UJ 38-14.

This set them up for a semifinal clash agains Maties who are unbeaten this year in the competition. It is never easy to travel to Stellenbosch and Shimlas will have to bring their A-game if they want to upset the champions.

In the other semifinal we will see Tuks hosting Pukke in Pretoria. Tuks will go into the match as favourites but never count out Pukke.

Tuks with only one loss, against Maties, and one draw when they fielded a second string team against UCT, have been a title contender all season.

Many people believe that Tuks and Maties will be playing in the final on the 15th but NWU have laid down the warning on Monday beating Wits 74-15.

They are a well coached side and will be up for this clash against Tuks.

Here is the semifinal fixtures:
