Although Ireland did most of the play at the start of the test it was Halfpenny that put the first points on the board after Wales forced to penalties to get into Irelands half of the field.

Just as Ireland started to take the ascendancy in the match O’Mahony went in with a shoulder in the face and got a straight red card.

That left Ireland to play with 14-men for 65 min.

It was if the O’Mahony red card sparked the Irish as they did most of the play and kept the Welsh pinned in their own twenty two.

With all the possession Wales had to get more points on the board and they did just with a classy finish from their winger Louis Rees-Zammit.

Wales kept playing in Irelands half of the field which force Ireland to give away penalties and Halfpenny was happy to extend his side lead with another penalty.

Ireland got some new life into their game with 10 minutes to go and where pressuring Wales hard in their twenty two.

Billy Burns got a penalty over for Ireland to reduce the lead of Wales to only 5 with 8 minutes to go.
