Beauden Barrett sign massive deal with Japanese club

It has been reported that All Black star Beauden Barrett has signed a one year deal worth NZ$ 1.5m with Suntory Sungoliath.

In 2019 Barret agreed to a new four year contract with NZR.

He Is set to miss out on the Blues 2021 Super Rugby season but will be back for the international season with the All Blacks. This is a deal that is apparently been agreed to by the New Zealand Rugby Union to help deal with the financial strain of COVID-19.

This will make Barrett one of the highest paid players in the world.

Although Barrett has signed a contract with the Blues, part of his deal was that he had the option to take a short play break in Japan, sometime over the next four years. This break needed to be negotiated with the Blues and NZR.

Japan is becoming the premier destination for the top players.
