The Bulls knocked the Lions out of the playoffs with a massive win of 48-27 over the Lions.

The Bulls was in a class of their own on attack and never stopped scoring tries outscoring the Lions with 7 tries to 2.

You would not find many game where the first try is scored without 30 seconds and that is just what the Lions did when Aphiwe Dyantyi caught the ball from kickoff to send Hacjivah Dayimani over.

This gave the Lions a 7-0 lead but the Bulls hit back within a minute when Liebenberg found his way over the line to even things up.

The scoreboard kept on ticking over with Jantjies that kicked a penalty over to give the lead back to the Lions.

That was quickly counter with a second try by the Bulls from van Staden which gave them a 14-10 lead.

The Lions got back on attack and with a penalty advantage Coetzee slotted a drop goal over to make it a one point game.

The Bulls hit back immediately again when Lizo Gqoboka crashing over to extend the lead to 21-13 after just 15 minutes.

With turnover the Bulls counter with Specman down the line and Odendaal to round off another great try to extend the lead to 28-13.

Pollard and Jantjies traded penalties to take the score to 31-16 as this settled down a bit after the frantic start to the match.

Jantjies got another penalty over the reduce the lead further to only 31-19.

Jantjies was first to put points for the Lions on the board in the second half with a penalty to reduce the lead to only 9 points.

The Bulls then lost RG Snyman for a no arms tackle. The Lions went for the attacking lineout but the Bulls were able to keep them out and turned over the ball.

The Lions took some time but eventually got an attacking lineout close to the Bulls line and they manage to drive over with Brink putting the ball down.

This reduced the lead to only 31-27.

The Bulls then got two tries over the Lions line first Hendricks with a great wing try down the line and then Pollard bashing over close to the line.

This extended the lead again to 43-27 for the Bulls with just 14 minutes left on the clock.

The Bulls in full control scored another try this time through Libbok after again some great work from Pollard who was having a brilliant game.

The Bulls did score another try at the end but it was overruled by the TMO as the last pass was forward.

This still gave the Bulls a massive win over the Lions. This also means the Lions will not advance to the playoffs.

  1. Probably best to give these guys a bit of rest anyway. Bulls and Sharks may go on for another Saturday, but I am not sure what the benefit will be – give the guys a rest.
