Carling Currie Cup – Lions take the win after match suspended


The Lions got the win in Kimberley after fighting back in a weather-affected first round Currie Cup clash against Griquas.

The Lions came from behind to lead 20-17 before officials took the players of the field due to lightning. After the allowed 30 minutes have passed officials called off the match as it was to dangerous for the players to continue the match.

The Lions had to fight back hard after Griquas made a great start to the match. At the break they were still trailing 17-13 but took the lead just a minute before the match was stopped due to the lightning.

Griquas raced to an early lead when they scored three unanswered tries putting scoreboard pressure on the Lions.

The Lions came back at the home side in the later part of the first half scoring two tries with the winning try just after halftime.
