European Challenge Cup, Friday Wrap – Bath, London Irish and Montpellier advance to playoffs


There was three European Challenge Cup matches on Friday with Bath, London Irish and Montpellier advancing to the playoffs of this years competition.

It was a come-from-behind win for Bath on Friday when they beat Zebre 35-27 in their last 16 match of the European Challenge Cup  clash.

Even with Pierre Bruno’s hat-trick the Italians side could not hang on for the win at home against the English side.

Zebre led early on from two Bruno tries before Cokanasiga hit back for Bath.

The hat-trick for Bruno came halfway through the first half but a try from Stuart reduce the lead again.

It was a brilliant comeback from London Irish playing with only fourteen men that beat Cardiff Blues on Friday 41-35 to take their place in the playoffs.

They trailed 32-20 after Goodrick-Clark was send off but two tries by Hepetema and Hassell-Collins put them ahead on the scoreboard.

Evans drop-goal gave the Blues the lead back again with three minutes left on the clock but the late try of Curtin Rona gave London Irish a great win.

It was not the best games of rugby we have seen, but Montpellier edge out Glasgow to advance to the playoffs.

Glasgow kicked seven penalties for their 21 points and will be disappointed not to get some tries on the night.

There was a few cards dished out in the match with a red to TJ Ioane, yellow cards for Nick Grigg and Bastien Chalureau and Martin Devergie.

Guilhem Guirado and Anthony Bouthier scored tries for Montpellier
