European Champions Cup, Sunday Wrap – Wins for Racing 92, Bordeaux-Begles and Sale sees them through to the quarter finals


The round of 16 ended Sunday with three more games in this years European Champions Cup.

First up was Racing 92 v Edinburgh

Racing 92 was simply just too good for Edinburgh on Sunday in their Champions Cup match, beating them 56-3 to advance to the quarter finals.

Tries by Camille Chat and Maxime Machenaud put Racing in the driving seat early on. 

The run in seven tries on the day with Machenaud, Jordan Joseph, Guram Gogichashvili, Teddy Thomas and Francois Trinh-Duc crossing the whitewash. 

The loss by Edinburgh also mean that no Scottish side have qualified for the playoffs this year.

Bristol will take no further part in the Champions Cup after the were well beaten by Bordeaux-Begles on Sunday.

The French outfit run in three tries in their 36-17 win which will see them play Racing 92 in the quarter finals.

Bristol led for most of the first half with a try by Purdy but Jalibert scored 15 points with the boot.

The writing was on the wall for Bristol when Jalibert converted his own try.

Sheedy did get another penalty over by Dweba and During tries sealed it for the French side.

This result mean only Exeter and Sale are through to the quarter finals

Scarlets met a rampant Sale Sharks on Sunday thumping them 57-14 in the last game of the round of 16.

The English side have now a date with La Rochelle in the quarter finals which will be another exciting match to look forward.

Two early tries from Akker Van der Merwe setup Sale nicely at the start of the match and there was nothing wrong with MacGinty’s boot on the night.

That ensure a 23point lead for Sale.

MacGinty scored a second half try bringing his tally to 32-points in the match. Marland Yarde, Josh Beaumont and Raffi Quirke also added tries for the visitors.
