Home Blues v Chiefs

    Blues v Chiefs

It was a crucial must win game for the Blues on Sunday against the Chiefs at home, and they done just that beating Gatland side 21-17.

The Chiefs are still without a win in the revamp Super Rugby competition sitting lonely at the bottom of the log.

A crucial try from Christie kept the Blues hopes alive to stay in touch with the Crusaders, specially after the Crusaders were dealt a huge blow by the Hurricanes at home on Saturday.

The win gave the Blues the second place on the log, just two log points shy off the Crusaders and two points ahead off the Hurricanes.

Discipline cost the Chiefs again when they were given a yellow card in the final minutes off the game. That gave the Blues a penalty which they just had to kick out for the win.

They outscored the Chiefs with three tries to two and worthy winners at the end.

The Blues had a great start racing to 14-0 after just 13 minutes. They did let the Chiefs come back in the game and were 14-17 behind before Christie saw a gap around the ruck to get over for the match wining try.

Duffie who had his first start after Barrett moved to fly-half this weekend scored the first try after running around McKenzie for the Blues try.
The Chiefs were desperate at some stages but produced some good tries from Alaimalo and Boshier.
At the end mistakes and ill-discipline cost the Chiefs as they are still without a win.

Blues 21: Tries: Matt Duffie, Patrick Tuipulotu, Finlay Christie Conversions: Beauden Barrett (3)

Chiefs 17  Tries: Lachlan Boshier, Solomon Alaimalo Conversions: Damian McKenzie (2) Penalty: McKenzie.
