    Recap

Extra time was needed but the Bristol Bears made their first-ever European final when they beat Bordeaux 37-20 on Friday night.

With this they reached the Challenge Cup Final and will face either Toulon or Leicester on the 16th October.

Tries from Luatua and Malins gave Bristol the lead just before the end of normal time before Joseph Dweba levelled it late in the game.

With the scores at 20-all tries from O’Vonor and Malins saw Bristol get the win in extra time. Bordeaux had to play with 14 men in the extra time period due to an injury.

Bordeaux came out of the blocks better and it was the pace of the French fly-half Jalibert that cause problems for Bristol. He was also the man who put Bordeaux in the lead after an effortless side-step to score the first try.

The French side defence was impressive in the opening stages of the match, with Bristol struggling to break their defence.

Jalibert kicked two penalties to open the gab on the scoreboard but Bristol finally hit back after Radradra sucked in the defence to created an overlap which saw Lautua go over.

Radradra was send to the bin after a high tackle but they kept their momentum and a great grabber gave Malins his try.

Bristol had a try disallowed after Hughes went over but it was ruled that he failed to ground the ball. Bordeaux missed their playmaker Jalibert in the second after he was forced off the field after halftime.

It was the former Cheetahs star hooker that turned the game on its head just before the end of the game when forced his way over the line.

O-Conor gave the host the perfect start in extra time cutting through the Frensh side defence.

A few minutes later Radradra was key with a quick pass to put Malins away.

Bordeaux had a try dissallowed by the TV official and when Sheedy kicked a penalty it was all over for the French side to comeback from.
