The Blues kept themselves in the hunt with their win over the Highlanders on Sunday.
After this weekend they are still two points behind the Crusaders on the log but they have played one more game, which means the Crusaders still likely to walk away the winners of the revamp New Zealand Super Rugby.
The Blues took and early lead when Akira Ioane and Christie scored the opening tries to give them a 12-0 lead.
Poor discipline from the Blues gave the Highlanders the chance to get back in the game. It was a try from Dixon with three penalties from Ioane to gave the home side the lead.
The Blues however got two tries before halftime from Faiane and Tu’ungafasi to take a 24-16 lead at the break.
They continue to put pressure on the Highlanders in the second half and with Christie getting a brace of tries to put the Blues well away to an away win.
The Highlanders never gave up and kept fighting and were rewarded with a late try by Frizell but it was to little to late for the home side.
Highlanders – Tries: Ash Dixon, Shannon Frizell. Conversions: Josh Ioane. Penalties: Ioane (3)
Blues – Tries: Akira Ioane, Finlay Christie (2), TJ Faiane, Ofa Tu’ungafasi. Conversions: Beauden Barrett (2) Penalties: Barrett.
