Home Highlanders v Hurricanes

    Highlanders v Hurricanes

Due to the cancellation of the Blues v Crusaders match in Auckland the last match of Super Rugby Aotearoa saw the Highlanders getting the better off the Hurricanes on Saturday.

Highlanders Highlanders 38 21 Hurricanes Hurricanes

It was a fantastic game of rugby with the Highlanders outplaying the Hurricanes by 38 to 21.

Both teams went out to play full attacking rugby with plenty off great tries. It was end-to-end stuff for the full 80 minutes and one of the better games we have seen this year.

The teams had a great wrestle in the first half and it was the Highlanders that took the game away from the visitors in the second 40 minutes.

The Hurricanes was first to score when Aso got over from a length of the field try. They turned the ball over and counter attack immediately with Aso at the end off it.

Barrett converted and they took a 7-0 lead.

The Highlanders even things up at 7-all almost immediately with great hands to send Punivai over.

The visitors were next to score and take the lead when Jamie Booth got his try after another length of the field try. It was that man Umaga-Jensen that broke the line again to send Booth over the line.

This gave the Hurricanes the lead of 14-7.

It was a gain a quick reply by the Highlanders, this time Ash Dixon the man crossing the line for their second try of the match.

That left both side on 14 points going into the break and all to play for in the second half.

Josh Ioane opened the scoring in the second half with a penalty to put the Highlanders in the lead for the first time in the match.

That was followed by a brilliant try by Michale Collins after Nareki open up the defence with a brilliant pass.

That game the home side a 24-14 lead.

The Highlanders then got a penalty try when Ben O’Keeffe did not hesitate to award the try after the Hurricanes Ardie Savea tried to slow the ball down in an offside position.

That also gave Savea a yellow card, with the Highlanders moving to a 31-14 lead.

The Highlanders got another try when Micth Hunt just had too much speed down the line to stretch the home side lead to 38-14.

The Hurricanes had the last say in the match with a try from Umaga-Jensen.

At the end the home side won the game 38-19 and end the season on a high but stayed in 4th spot on the log behind the Hurricanes.
