Recap
Tasman have defended their Mitre 10 Cup title successfully on Saturday when they beat Auckland in a thrilling final 13-12.
Havili was one of the standout players for Tasman as he slotted a 70th minute penalty to take the lead and then also win a crucial turnover at the depth that sealed the win for them.
It was good to see the handling and effort going into the match and it was one of those edge of your seats stuff throughout the 80 minutes.
Poor discipline was Auckland’s downfall as they got two yellow cards which proved very costly at the end.
Auckland had a few chances at the end as well with Hickey missing a drop goal with three minutes to go.
Tasman with this win become only the second team in Mitre 10 Cup history to win successive finals.
Credit must go to Auckland who defended brilliantly with one man down but that was off their own making and should not have been in that position.
Scorers:
Auckland 12 : Harry Plummer 3 pens, Zarn Sullivan pen
Tasman 13 :Quentin MacDonald try, David Havili con, 2 pens
