The Reds are two from two but easy it was not when they scrapped through against the Rebels on Friday in Brisbane.
Discipline was not that great form the home side early on and it cost them with Toomua slotting two penalties over in the opening 10 minutes of the game.
It was a high tempo game as expected from these two sides and it was the Reds that created the first real chance but a great scrum from the Rebels relieved the pressure.
Both sides slotted a penalty each over to take the scoreboard to 9-3 halfway through the half.
The Reds created enough opportunities in that first half but handling errors and some brilliant defence from the Rebels kept them out.
With each kicker slotting another penalty each the halftime score was 12-6 for the visitors.
After another penalty from To’omua the Reds finally got over for a try with a driving maul with Mafi at the end of it all.
Hodge extended the Rebels lead again to five points with a long range 55m penalty.
The Reds tried a few more driving mauls in the second half but the Rebels defence was up to the task and kept them out each time.
Fotuaika then got a straight red card for a dangerous tackle. Despite the red card the Reds got a penalty from a seven man scrum which O’Conner slotted to make it a 2 point game again.
Discipline would again handed the Rebels a three pointer taking the lead back to five points with 10 minutes to go.
Finally we saw some Reds magic when O’Conner chip over the top which saw Paisami gather the ball and send Mafi sprinting for the try line. Only a desperate tackle from Hodge saw the ball dislodge before Mafi could reach the line.
Mafi would eventually get the match-winning try when the Reds faked a driving maul with Mafi coming around the outside to smash his way over the line.
That left O’Conner to convert the try for the lead which he did but that was still not the end of it.
The Rebels would get another penalty 42 meters out after a high tackle penalty but To’omua could not convert the penalty which gave the Rebels there second win of the season.
Reds – Tries: Mafi (2) Cons: O’Connor (2) Pens: O’Connor (3)
Rebels – Pens: To’omua (6), Hodge.
