    Toyota Cheetahs v Xerox Lions

It has not been an easy return for the Lions after the lockdown but in the last two weeks they have comeback to beat Western Province in Johannesburg and on Saturday they traveled to Bloemfontein and beat the Cheetahs 39-23.

They were really in control the whole game leading 13-9 at the break.

It was that second half that would have given Lions supporters a huge smile in Saturday scoring four tries to earn them a bonus point and just one point behind Western Province on the log.

The Cheetahs took the lead early on with a monster kick by Frans Steyn and another by Tian Schoeman to give them a 6-0 lead.

Schoeman added another before Lions captain Jantjies got his first over for the afternoon.

It was here were the match turned to the Lions with their forwards starting to control things. It was so good to see them keeping ball in hand which put huge pressure on the home side.

The first try came from Alberts who showed his power and strength to give the visitors a 10-9 lead.

Jantjies added one more penalty before the halftime hooter ended the first half.

In the second half we saw the Lions of old scoring three tries in the first ten minutes taking the game away from the Cheetahs really.

Andre Warner scored two of those tries. These tries showed the skills of this Lions team with Jaco Kriel getting the break in Warner’s first try and Jantjies the catalyst in the second.

Then it was time for the big man Jannie Du Plessis to end off a brilliant try which demonstrated that this Lions team have the skills to score tries like we seen them do a few years ago.

At 32-9 the game was really over for the Cheetahs who just could not keep up with the Lions in that second half.

They did however got their try through Haas but the Lions replied with Orie who had another brilliant game being rewarded with a five-pointer.

Credit to the Cheetahs who never stop trying and they had the last try of the match with Van Der Merwe getting over the line.

Next week the Lions face the Sharks which is setup to be a cracker and the Cheetahs travel to Nelspruit to face the Pumas.
