Griquas was able to run riot against the Free State on Saturday when they beat them 59-24.

Griquas have been playing to stay out of the relegation match at the end of the season for a few weeks now and non-more important that against the Free State on Saturday.

They started the match well creating opportunities early on putting the Free State under huge pressure forcing them into mistakes and penalties.

The host was first to score with a great try from Sias Koen which Whitehead converted. This gave them a 7-0 lead.

The Free State did not sit back and immediately hit back with a try of their own after a first one was disallowed.

They soon took the lead with their second try as they got over the Griquas defence.

With the Free State leading 14-7 Griquas also hit back with two quick tries to take the lead back.

With 21-14 lead, they extended the lead through Whitehead with a penalty but Free State got three points back just before halftime.

This gave the Griquas a 24-17 lead at the break.

The Free State had the better start to the second half and were the one that put the pressure this time on the host.

They were rewarded with the first try of the second half with Africa the man over and level the score again at 24-all.

Both teams tried their best as the launch attack on attack but defences were good enough to hold them out.

It took some brilliant play from Griquas to take the lead again when Kruger went over for the lead of 31-24 after 54 minutes.

The Griquas team worked hard to stay in the Free State half and they got the opportunity to drive from a lineout which they did to extend their lead to 38-24.

The Free State did not stand back and tried to fight back but the Griquas defence was brilliant at times especially in their own twenty-two.

It was Griquas who got over the line again with a brilliant try which saw almost all the players handle the ball and a lead of 45-24.

With Griquas controlling the game the Free State had no answer conceding tries and yellow cards in the process.

Griquas was able to score two more tries before the end of the match to win the game 59-24.
