It was certainly not pretty from England but they got the job done and got the bonus point win against Italy on Saturday.
England scored enough tries to see that they have the quality but their execution was poor and again struggled with their game management.
The Italians played their heart out and never gave up which was great to see but they are a team of youngsters be buildup for the future.
Italy could not asked for a better start when they kept the ball in hand throughout the first few minutes to see their winger Ioane going over for the first try of the match
That gave Italy a surprising 5-0 lead early on.
England quickly got into their game and forced it down on the Italians. It was fast hands and quick ball that gave England the space to get into Italy half off the field.
Their first points came from the boot of Farrell to reduce the lead to 5-3 before Hill got over for England first try of the match and the lead for the first time.
Italy replied with a penalty of their own to draw level again.
With England wanting to spread the ball wide they used quick hands to get easily pass Italy defence to send Watson over for their second try.
England had plenty more opportunities in the last half of the first half but mistakes started to creep in and some pretty ordinary decision making saw them struggle to extend the lead.
With the clock going into the red just before halftime, May finally use some skills to get over in the corner to give England a bigger lead going into the break.
England would have felt that they could have been much further ahead and would have looked to be more clinical in that second half and stamp out those errors on defence.
England started the second half well and put Italy on massive pressure but a turnover gave Italy a break away and ended with Italy reducing the lead with a penalty.
England kept having the best of the ball in hand but mistakes on mistakes just hampered any idea they had to get some points from all the possession. Must say Italy defence was much better than what they showed against the French.
England with a penalty from a scrum on the Italians twenty two saw them taking a quick take and with some pressure saw Willis going over for another England try.
This gave England a 34-11 lead with 20 minutes to go in the match.
With an attacking scrum Italy had a set move worked beautifully which saw Tommaso Allan go over for Italy and reduce the lead again.
England however responded in the best possible way and immediately score their next try through Daly which took them past 40 points.
England at the end got the bonus point win, and that is what they need to stay in the hunt for the championship.
