The Highlanders kept their hopes alive to make the playoffs as they got a bonus point win over the Waratahs on Friday.

With the win they now need other teams to mess up for them to make it but it is at least a hope.

At the end they scored 7 tries to 2 to totally outplayed the visitors in the first half. The second half was more even as both teams found it hard to keep ball in hand.

All the play early on was done by Highlanders as they slowly moved into the Waratahs half of the field.

The Highlanders threw everything at the Waratahs but their defence was good enough to keep them out and exit from their half.

A turnover and kick down field was not gathered by the Waratahs and McKay gather the loose ball to score the first try of the match.

The Highlanders again had a turnover and this time Naholo sprinted down the field to get the ball recycled and got out wide for Tevita Li to get over in the corner.

This gave the home side a 14-0 lead after 13 minutes of play in the first half.

The Highlanders then put 19 phases together before Franklin dived over for their third try as just reward for the dominance they have show thus far in the match.

Next over the line was Naholo after a lineout close to the Waratahs line. With the lead 28-0 the Waratahs got a turnover and got the ball out wide to get over for their first try of the match.

The Highlanders got themselves again back with a attacking lineout on the Tahs line and from the drive the Waratahs came in from the side upon which the referee awarded a penalty try to the home side.

The Waratahs also received a yellow card for their trouble as they went 35-7 behind after 36 minutes.

The Highlanders managed one more try before the end of the first half when Walden crashed over the line to go into the break with a 42-7 lead.

The second half started with the Waratahs showing a bit more resistance against the Highlanders attack as both teams struggle to get momentum early on in the half.

Errors keep creeping into the game as both sides struggled to put phases together. After the 23 minutes in the second half both were still unable to get points on the board.

Both side were able to add a try-a-piece at the end but it was the Highlanders that got the win and the bonus point and now had to wait and see what the rest of the teams do over the weekend.
