The Blues did hat was needed on Saturday against the Hurricanes to take the win and stay in the hunt for the title. It was not the best of matches but the Blues were the better of the two sides.
At the end they beat the Hurricanes 27-17.
The Hurricanes had early possession and pressed the Blues hard in their twenty two but with some solid defence the home side were able to keep them out.
There was some good play from both sides creating chances at both sides of the field with the Hurricanes having the better off the early exchanges.
Just as the Hurricanes wanted to kick the first penalty a yellow card was shown for Du’Plessis Kirifi for contact with the head of Black in the ruck.
Barrett finally got some points on the board in the 26th minute of the match with a penalty give the Hurricanes the lead.
The Blues worked their way to the Hurricanes line and from a maul they were awarded a penalty try by the referee who judges that Ardie Savea pulled down the maul. He also got a yellow for his trouble.
This gave the Blues a 7-3 lead.
Barrett immediately made it a one point game with another penalty after they got back in striking distance. Black extended the Blues lead with a penalty of his own minutes later to 10-6.
As it went throughout the match the Hurricanes immediately pulled three points back with the boot of Barrett making the halftime score 10-9 for the Blues
Barrett kicked a massive penalty to put the Hurricanes in front early in the second half but it was the Blues with another try though TJ Faiane after they worked their way down the field.
A beautiful backline move which saw Rieko Ioane breaking the line and send the ball wide to Mark Talea to score in the corner.
That gave the Blues a 24-12 lead with 13 minutes left in the match.
The Hurricanes made it interesting with scoring a try 3 minutes from time with Prinsep going over reducing the lead to just 7 points.
The Blues kicked deep from the restart and from a scrum they forced penalty which Black knocked over to secure the win 27-17.
