Match Report – Brilliant second half secure Chiefs first win in Super Rugby Aotearoa

The Chiefs has managed their first win in Super Rugby Aotearoa on Saturday in a brilliant comeback in the second half against he Hurricanes.

Down by 19 points at the break the Chiefs dominated the second half and scored four tries to beat the Hurricanes in their own back yard 35-29.

It was McKenzie magic for the Chiefs in that second half as the All Black just show why he is so highly rated as a player.

Having done so good in the first half the Hurricanes were outclass in the second half against the desperate Chiefs side that deserve the win.

The Chiefs was under early pressure and conceded a few penalties which put them under pressure and let the home side score the first point with a try by Luke Campbell which Barrett converted to give them a 7-0 lead.

The Chiefs replied immediate with their first try from Kaleb Trask which Mckenzie had no problem converting to even things up again at 7-7.

The Hurricanes retook the lead with their second try by Ricky Riccitelli which was soon followed by Salesi Rayasi also getting over for the home side.

That stretch the Hurricanes lead to 19-7.

Rayasi got over for another try just before halftime which took the lead to 26-7 and it looked like another hiding on the cards for the Chiefs as the teams went in for halftime.

A different Chiefs side emerged for the second half and they started they comeback with a try by Chase Tiatia which reduced the lead to 26-14.

It took not long for the Chiefs to get over the whitewash again this time Brad Weber the man over from brilliant play by McKenzie.

With the conversion over the Chiefs have reduced the Hurricanes lead to only 26-21 and we knew we had a game that will go down to the wire.

The Chiefs kept their momentum and they took the lead for the first time of the match when Naitoa Ah Kuoi got over for his try.

Barrett knocked over a penalty to give the home side the lead again, 29-28 but it was the Chiefs that had the last say this time around.

A turnover secure an opportunity for the visitors and it was Luke Jacobson that got over for the winning try.

This gave the Chiefs the lead and the win over the Hurricanes 35-29.
