The Stormers are now the only unbeaten side in this years competitions after beating the Jaguares at Newlands 17-7.

It was a wet old field and the players adapt to it fine in the first half but as the game went on they started to make more handling errors which stopped some promising attacks from both sides.

The two teams both looked good at the start with some dump conditions in the air. The Stormers made early inroads into the Jaguares half with some pressure on their line.

The Stormers showed early dominance in the scrum which was good to see in the conditions.

The Stormers kept the Jaguares pinned in their own half and after again some phases the penalty came which Willemse kicked over for the first points of the match.

Frans Malherbe was yellow carded in a really bizarre way for a dangerous tackle which left the Stormers with a man down.

The Stormers had the better with ball in hand and the territory but could not get pass the Jaguares defence.

The half ended with the Stormers missing plenty off opportunities and letting the Jaguares off easily.

The Stormers got their first try from a loose pass by the visitors which Jantjies picked up and run down the field to put the ball down under the sticks.

This extend the Stormers lead to 10-0.

It seems the try sparked both teams to life as the Jaguares also started to look better on attack creating half changes themselves.

It was the Stormers pack that build momentum again for the backs to get the ball out quickly to Nel who founded space to get over for the home side second try of the match.

This extend the lead to 17-0 after 55 min.

The Jaguares started to get a few scrums in and after two penalties in the scrum they got Rodrigo Bruni over for their first try of the match.

This sparked the Argentinians to life as they were finding plenty off space in the Stormers defence. This reduced the lead to 17-7 with 10 minutes to go in the game.

The game started to get a bit loose as both teams tried to run the ball from everywhere..

Both sides had opportunities to score again but at the end the Stormers took the win 17-7.

  1. Any NZ side can beat any side in the comp but I can’t see the Stormers losing especially if Roberts and bel are at Centre with Willemse at 10. Combined with Stormers pack , should win the comp, but they have lost yster – so maybe not. Need Bongi back – v underrated – little powerhouse – worldclass fearless when he gets stuck in.
