Match Report – La Rochelle beat Gloucester to book playoff spot


At the end it was a job done for French outfit La Rochelle who was just too strong for the Cherry and White beating them 27-16.

They were much more creative and played with flair which was much better than the doggy Gloucester side.

George Barton put the home side ahead in the third minute with a penalty to take and early lead.

La Rochelle hot back with a try by Dillyn Leyds who got the ball fro Gourdon to get their noses in front but it was quickly countered by another penalty from Barton.

Gloucester did not stay in the lead for long with Ihaia West kicking his first penalty over for a 8-6 lead.

Six minutes later La Rochelle gave us a brilliant try Retiere. The ball was passing the ball back and forth with some brilliant hands before Botia founded Retiere.

West kicked the conversion over to extend their lead to 15-6.

Gloucester hit back with a powerful burst by Ruan Ackermann after Barton came up short. Barton however did get the conversion over to reduce the lead.

There was no more points in the first half as the teams went into the break with La Rochelle leading 15-13.

La Rochelle were first to score points in the second half after Lewis Ludlow was send to the bin with West slotting the penalty.

West slotted another one over after La Rochelle was still causing the home side problems on attack.

George Barton finally got Gloucester first points of the second half  with a penalty to reduce the lead again.

A couple more penalties saw La Rochelle finished it for the La Rochelle to setup a quarter final with Scarlets or Sale Sharks.
