The Lions scored nine tries to beat Griquas 61-31 on Friday night in Johannesburg.
It was an all round great performance from the Lions who saw their match against the Cheetahs cancelled last week.
Griquas let the scoreboard ran away from them in the first half as the Lions dominated all aspects of the game. Although they came back in the second they could not keep the Lions from scoring as well.
The Lions went on the attack from the kickoff as Griquas given away penalties which made it easy for the Lions yo get into the Griquas twenty two.
In the process Griquas received a yellow card within the first two minutes of the match leaving them with fourteen men.
The Lions with ball in hand did look good but Griquas was able to get their defensive system working from the onset.
The first try came for the Lions after a powerful scrum which went out to the backs and Simelane with the break which ended with Skosan going over.
This gave the Lions an early 7-0 lead.
The Lions build again after Griquas again gave away penalties and with great hands it was that man Simelane again that send Kriel over for the Lions second try.
The Griquas eventually put some phases together and got a penalty which Whitehead kicked over for their first points.
Griquas was building nicely in the Lions half of the field and looked good with ball in hand until a loose pass saw the Lions kicked the ball down field which ended in Skosan getting his second of the match.
The Lions secure their bonus point try just before halftime when it was again Simelane who had the vision and hands to send Pienaar over.
This gave the Lions a 28-3 lead at the break
The Lions were first to get over in the second half whenthey had a perfect drive from the lineout to send Pelser over.
Griquas finally got at their first try after a good break by Burger which took their score to 10 but the Griquas hit back immediately when Burger found some space to get over for Griquas first try.
It took not long for the Lions to reply again with a linout drive which saw Jaco Visagie this time at the end of it to take the Lions lead to 42-10.
Griquas showed that they can also use their forwards and the next try came from the visitors when Luus got over.
Griquas was next to score again when Jantjies kick went start to Verity-Amm who ran in for a great Griquas try to reduce the Lions lead again to 42-24.
Simelane got rewarded for a great game when he picked up a forward kick to run over for the Lions to extend their lead to 49-24.
Credit to Griquas who did not give up throughout the second half and they where next to score with De Beer getting over for their bonus point try.
The Lions got two late tries to take their score to 61-31 after Nothnagel got over from a drive and Skosan scored his hat-trick try.
