The Rebels handed the Brumbies their first defeat in the revamp Super Rugby AU on Friday, beating them 30-12.
The Rebels got ahead in the third minute of the game when Reece Hodge got over in the corner after a nine-phase attack from the home side.
That gave them an early 5-0 lead over the log leaders.
The Rebels implemented a lot of kicks out of hand to pin the Brumbies back in their own half. The Brumbies had a chance early on with Fainga but he knocked the ball on close to the line.
The Rebels were next to score again with another counter-attack which sends Brad Wolin over for the try.
With the conversion successful the Rebels extended their lead to 12-0.
The Brumbies got on the scoreboard when Joe Powell got over in the corner after another familiar driving maul by the Brumbies. This reduced the lead to only 12-7.
The Rebels kept their tactical kicking game and a little grubber from To’omua send Hodge over after he beaten Banks to the ball. This extended the Rebels lead again to 17-7.
The Brumbies looked out of sorts and their kicking game was not up to standard throughout the first half. The Rebels extended their lead with a penalty from To’omua to make the score 20-7.
The Rebels got another before the break when Isi Naisarani took a quick-tap. He was held up before Uelese vrashed over from a close range. This gave the Rebels a handy 27-7 lead going into the break.
The Brumbies suffered another blow when the referee send Cusack off with a yellow card for double infringements on the try-line.
The second half were much more even and the first points came from the boot of To’omua who slotted a penalty in the 53 minute to extend the home side lead to 30-7.
Both team struggled with just too many mistakes in the last quarter of the game.
The Brumbies got a consolation try at the fulltime hooter when Will Miller got over to take their score to 12.
