Mitre 10 – Auckland too good for defending champions


The defending champions, Tasman suffered a heavy defeat against Auckland at Eden Park on Saturday when Auckland beat them easily 31-10.

This also ensure that Auckland overtook Tasman on the log of the Premiership.

Both All Blacks released to play in this weeks game, Lomax and Reece had very quite games.

At halftime the defending champions were 24-0 down on the scoreboard with plenty to do in the second half to pull this one out of the bag.

Rayasi was outstanding and overshadow Reece’s on the opposite side. Both Rayasi and his wing partner AJ Lam got over for tries.

Both sides did not lift up to the top of the table clash with Auckland only showing brilliance in flashes during the game.

The first quarter was hard to watch with both teams just not getting into the game. Execution was lacking for both sides.

But soon after the 20th minute in the first half Auckland got reward for their territory in Tasman half when Choat got over from a rolling maul.

Auckland never really let up after this and showed dominance with ball in hand.They then broke the game up with a stunning three-try burst in just nine minutes before halftime.

Auckland just build on that and before Tasman knew it the game ran away from them.
