Mitre 10 Cup – Auckland survive Bay of Plenty onslaught

Auckland survived a massive onslaught from Bay of Plenty on Friday to secure their third win in this season Mitre 10 Cup competition.

It was a massive defensive effort from Auckland in the second half to hold off Bay of Plenty. Both sides made plenty of errors and it was maybe not the best game but Auckland will take the wins as they come.

History has also been against Bay of Plenty as they have not beaten the Auckland side since 2012 and this loss leave them with a single win in three matches.

They had opportunities a plenty in the final quarter of the match but Auckland defence was up to everything they threw at them on the day.

The highlight of the first half was two tries bu Rayasi for Auckland with the rest of the half just saw mistakes from both sides which made this a real stop-start affair.

Bay of Plenty was still in the game at halftime with three penalties from Otere Black to make the halftime score 17-9 for Auckland.

Auckland 20 (Salesi Rayasi 2 tries; Simon Hickey 2 con, pen; Harry Plummer pen)

Bay of Plenty 16 (Leroy Carter try; Otere Black con, 3 pen).
