Nothnagel will lead Lions against Pumas


The Lions kick-off the season with a new coach, new captain and Tiaan Swanepoel making a shift to flyhallf for the match against the Pumas.

The pre-season matches will see teams playing different combinations to get ready for the Rainbow Cup that is set to start in April against the Pro14 teams.

Swanepoel who this week extended his contract with the Lions will start the match at 10 where he played most of his schoolboy rugby.

He is definitely a player we will look out for as he is one of the skilful players in SA and showing lots of potential.

EW Viljoen will take the number 15 jumper for this game.

With the new season the Lions will also have a new coach that will take charge during this pre-season tournament in Mziwakhe Nkosi who has come through the Lions junior ranks.

Nkosi will be assisted by Wessel Roux and there is some excitement in seeing Nkosi and Roux developing at this level now. Ivan van Rooyen will oversee the proceedings.

Divan Rossouw who moved from the bulls during the lockdown will also get his chance t o get a run for the Lions

At the breakdown the Lions could dominate with Francke Horn, Roelof Smit and Marnus Schoeman.

Reinhard Northnagel will captain the side with Ruhan Straeuli that will play on the bench.

The match is on Friday at 19:00 and will be live on SuperSport
