There seem to be allot of movement to start happening on the local rugby scene as Netwerk24 is reporting that Springbok and Bulls nine is set to move to the Lions.

This could just be what Paige is needing to take his game to the next level with the Lions that have been the top side in SA for the last couple of years now.

With Faf de Klerk moving to England the Lions was always seeking a quality nine to replace him with Cronje as their number one.

Ivan van Zyl seems to be the man Micthell have his faith in the new look Bulls team so the move may be just what the doctor ordered for Paige.

It is also no secret that the Bulls want to pull Pumas Stefan Ungerer to Pretoria which should make game time even more difficult for the Springbok if he stay.

It is also said that the Bulls have signed Province prop Frans van Wyk to strengthen their tight-head problems.

Sure we will see some more speculations and moves this coming weeks as players contracts comes to and end at this time of the year.

  1. Curious to see Lion fans reactions to this.
I have no idea but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s akin to peaceably eating lunch & a guy sits comes & sits next to you with flaring head lice.
Rugby Union is full of surprises.
This one I’d reckon is more like seeing an old friend you haven’t in a long time & him telling you that you owe him money.
    Can’t wait!

  2. I actually think it is a great move from Paige if he can pull it off. I think the Lions game will evolve his game and that he will fit in much better.

But ye would like to see the Lions reaction…

Oh wonder what Bulls are saying…can remember a little centre called Jansen Van Rensburg who was let go and became a huge player at the lions

  3. Bunny, Paige is a really good scrumhalf. Does the basics well. His only problem is that he doesn’t really snipe around rucks, thus allowing opposition to drift in defense. Would’ve loved to see him develop at the Bulls, but good luck at the Lions. Seems that Mitchell is a fan of Ivan van Zyl, who is a really bright young star.

  4. @Aldo:

Paige is a `safe`bet. He has a great pass, safe hands, average defender, does not hit the fringes, rarely makes a creative individual move/snipe, below average boot… not test quality (but then who is in RSA these days)?

For mine a half-back has to have all those qualities above as well as being an extra loosie.

Will be interesting to see the make-up of the Lions next season… and the Paige/Jantjies channel. As we have seen in this test season they hide Jantjies on the wings because of his poor defence… what will they do at the Lions?
