Rugby World Cup – New Zealand blow Ireland away


The All Blacks showed why they are the favourites to lift the trophy in two weeks. They totally outplayed Ireland from the start to finish to book a place against England in next weeks semi finals.

At the end they scored seven tries to two to tally up a score of 46-14.

Ireland where not allowed to get into the game from the start as the All Blacks kept ball in hand and started to break down the Irish defence.

The All Blacks was first to get points on the board with a penalty form Richie Mo’unga.

With all the pressure coming from the All Blacks, Ireland were defending the whole time in their own half. It was some great work by All Blacks forwards which open space for Smith to snipe through for the first try of the match.

This gave the All Blacks a 10-0 lead after 16 minutes.

Ireland tried to get in the All Blacks twenty two but skills of the All Blacks was just too much to handle.

The All Blacks got Smith over for his second try of the match when they broke out out wide again for Smith to to again snipe over in the corner.

This gave them a 17-0 lead and in total control of the match.

A mistake by Ireland on attack inside the All Blacks half got kicked through and the always present Barrett was there to pick it up and score the All Blacks third try of the test.

Ireland had a good period in the on the All Blacks line in the final minutes of the half but a shoulder charge in the ruck by Peter O’Mahony gave New Zealand a penalty to exit and end the half in control.

They had a massive lead of 22-0 with just 40 minutes to go.

The second half was a slow start compared to the way the first half stated but the All Blacks was still controlling game and the speed of the game with Ireland having to defend in their own half.

The try had too come with the All Blacks forwards kept hammering at the Irish defence and eventually Taylor got over for another try.

Ireland finally got in the New Zealand half and kept the pressure on the world champions and from a penalty scrum it was Robbie Henshaw that got over for their first try of the match.

The All Blacks was not finished with another turnover that resulted in a try for George Bridge to take their score past 40 in the match.

Ireland got a penalty try after they getting back into the All Blacks half but it was the World Champions that had the last say with a great try from Jordie Barrett.

This send the All Blacks to face England in the semi’s and Ireland will be going home

  1. Yep Irish peaked too early – if RWC had happened 2 years ago might’ve been a different story

    But ABs looked smoking hot tonight. Next week is quite a semifinal v England tho. That match could go either way – this is not the AB team of the past. It’s still a bloody good team , but can def be beaten.
