The Blues had the better of the second half against the Chiefs at home to end their Super Rugby Aotearoa with a good win in front of their home fans.
The match was evenly poised throughout the match and it was only in the last quarter of the match scoring three tries to secure a 39-19 win.
Before the late tries the two teams was level on 19-all and it looked like the game would go down to the wire but the Blues who created opportunities throughout the match were just too good for the young Chiefs side at the end.
It was always expected that the Blues would have too much for the Chiefs at the end with many of their first-choice players given the rest before next weekend final against the Crusaders.
At the end the Blues outscored the Chiefs with six tries to one and manage a bonus point win in their last game.
The Chiefs took the early lead with a penalty from Gatland but the Blues hot back moments late the Blues scored the first try of the match when Eklund found space next to the ruck to give the home side the lead.
Gatland took three back with another penalty from Gatland but the Blues replied with a maul from a line out as Choat got over.
When the players went into the break the Blues led 14-9.
Gatland got another penalty over early in the second half to reduce the lead to only four points.
The Blues had a lot of ball in hand but the young Chiefs side stood up in defence. The Blues finally got their third try by Sullivan.
The Chiefs finally got over the whitewash with Bailyn Sullivan that went over for the try. Gatland knocked the conversion over from the touchline to level the scoreboard at 19-all.
That sparked the Blues to go on full attack and they first got the Black to knock over a penalty to take the lead again before Hoskins Sotutu peeled off the scrum to score another for the Blues.
With a 10 point lead the Blues went over two more times with tries from Sam Nock and AJ Lam.
