The Highlanders never gave up but at the end, it was not enough.

The Highlanders Aaron Smith got over the line after a brilliant move by Mitch Hunt but the try was disallowed by the TMO due to an obstruction in the lead-up to the try.

The Hurricanes also got the TMO disallowing their first try after Laumape got over. Obstruction was again the reason the try was not given as both teams were still scoreless an an exciting first few minutes of the match.

It took the Hurricanes the better part off half an hour to get the first points on the board when TJ Perenara found a gap in the Highlanders defence to get over under the post.

With Barrett conversion the Hurricanes took a 7-0 lead.

Kobus van Wyk was the next man over for his try in the corner which was also referred to the TMO. Replays showed Van Wyk got the ball down just in time.

Although the Highlanders had their changes in the first half, they could not convert it into points and the teams went into the break with the Hurricanes leading 12-0.

It was all Hurricanes at the start off the second half which saw Flanders getting over for their third off the match and a 17-0 lead.

Mitch Hunt put the first points on the board for the Highlanders through a penalty which started a mini comeback from the visitors.

It was Aaron Smith try that gave the Highlanders and their supporters the believe that they can come back and still win the game.

It was great reward for the Highlanders who played much better than what the scoreboard suggested which reduced the lead to 17-8.
