Super Rugby AU – Brumbies thrash Waratahs

It was a brilliant performance from the Brumbies that saw them thrash the Waratahs on Saturday 61-10.

With the halftime score 26-10 the writing was on the wall for the Tahs who was outscored by four tries to one. The first half tries for the home side came from Rob Valetini, Mackenzie Hansen, Noah Lolesio and Connal McInerney.

The Brumbies did not let up in the second half and tries came form Nic White, Mackenzie Hansen(2), Lochlan Lonergan and Tom Banks.

So early in the new season it was almost to perfect a performance from the Brumbies who send out a clear message that any team wanting to take their crown will have to step up.

In the same breath the Waratahs was not that bad but they just did not had the answers for the quality in this Brumbies side.

The Tahs took the early lead when Harrison kicked over a penalty but from there on end it was really only the Brumbies on the field. There first try came from close range when Valentini drove over the line. That gave them a 7-3 lead.

The Brumbies moved the ball around and the second try was a classy one from Hansen. About all the players was involved in the lead up to the try with the Waratahs defence being stretch to the limit. Eventually Hansen was opened out wide and ran in for the second try of the match.

The Brumbies third one came from a maul but this time it was not a forward that got up with the ball but Lolesio. This stretch the Brumbies lead to 19-3.

The Waratahs only try of the match came Johnson-Holmes who used his strength to get over the whitewash.

The Waratahs would have given themselves still a chance if the scored remained 19-10 at the break but just before the final act in the first half the home side got their 4th tries through Connal McInerney.

The Brumbies came out in the second half as they ended the first and it took not long for Nic White to put his name on the scoresheet.

This quickly stretches the Brumbies lead to 31-10.

Hansen soon got his second try of the match when a pass found his hands to get over for another.

With the home side dominating proceedings it was Lonergan who was next over for his try after another great Brumbies maul. Hansen was not done for the night and he got his hat-trick soon after.

The Brumbies still had one more try in them as Tom Banks was at the end of a counter attack which he started in his own half.
