Super Rugby AU – Rebels take the win in a thriller

The Rebels had to fight till the end against the Force to secure a spot in the Super Rugby AU playoffs on Saturday.

It was a dramatic last-minute win for the Rebels that saw them secure a spot in the playoffs. They needed to win by four points or more and did just that to deny the Waratahs the final play-off spot.

The Rebels points came from tries by Tom Pincus, Reece Hodge, Dane Haylett-Petty and Cabous Eloff with Henry Taefu, Andrew Ready (2) and Brynard Stander getting over for the Force.

It was the Force that opened the scoring with a penalty from Prior to take a 3-0 lead.

The Rebels spilled a great chance for their points when Wells could not hold on to a pass, but the Rebels started to play more with the ball and dominated the play.

They were finally rewarded when Pincus got over under the post.

It was the Force turn when Taefu scored to give them a 8-7 lead but it was the Rebels that retook the lead with a penalty from Toomua. This became 13-8 minutes later.

They extended their lead when Hodge got over for his try. They were unlucky not to get another try which was disallowed by the TMO due to obstruction by Hodge.

The Force however had the last say in the half when Ready went over for a try to make it 20-13 at the break.

The Force quickly responded with Ready getting over for try which made the scoreboard read 20-all.

The Rebels was on the back foot after that and it was Prior with a penalty kick that gave the Force the lead. The Rebels then saw Pincus going to the bin which added to their woes.

It was Stander for the Force who got over next which made the lead 30-20 with 23 minutes left on the clock. It all looked like the Force will get their first win of the season but it was Haylett-Petty that got over to give the Rebels hope again.

The Rebels was now pushing for a dramatic win and came close when Koriobete try was disallowed due to a forward pass.

With the Force now one man down due to a yellow card the Rebels were pushing even harder.
