An interesting SuperSport Rugby Challenge weekend as we saw Province losing to their neighbours Boland on Sunday, which was also their first lost of the season.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls ended their campaign on a high note when they beat the Leopards 63-36 on Friday in Pretoria.

With nine tries to five the Blue Bulls dominated and outplayed the Leopards to get a bonus point win in their last league match of the season.

The second half did not see as much points but the game was already won.

It was a hat-trick from old Lions Anthony Volmink that helped Griquas win their match this weekend against the Golden Lions to secure a place in the semi finals.

Griquas beat the Golden Lions 45-26 after leading 24-14 at the break.

The win also sealed the faith for the Golden Lions who still had a small change of making the semi’s.

The first half was a ding dong battle which continued through to the second half but at the end Griquas outscored the visitors by six tries to four.

The Free State booked their place in the semi finals against the Pumas by beating Border 80-7 on Saturday.

It was a one-sided affair with Free State leading 26-0 at the break. The home side ran in 12 tries to 1 with Tapiwa Mafura scoring a hat-trick.

Boland surprise Province on Sunday when they beat their neighbours 22-21 to secure a semi final spot against the Pumas.

Province still ended on top of the south section securing a home semi final but it was Boland that walked away with the spoils on Sunday.

It seemed that Boland wanted the win more and it showed in the way they approach the game.

Wellman and Rautenbach scored for the home side with Mattheus only manage one conversion. The home side also got a penalty try outscoring Province with three tries to two at the end.
