Tasman got off to a great start to their Mitre 10 Cup campaign when they beat Counties Manukau 41-24 in Pukekohe on Saturday.

Former All Black captain Read was playing for his province he supported as a child but could not help then to a win.

Counties conceded their third try in the 20th minute when Kerr’s pass was intercepted by Telea and finished off by Cirikidaveta.
Counties were next to score when Leavasa scored on debut from an attacking scrum.
They got another when Papalii got over to make the score 21-17 for Tasman at the break.

Tasman kept their dominance in the final 40 minutes. It was Faingaanuku that scored next in the 53rd minute.

Tasman added penalties from Hunt with Taulani scoring a consolation try with two minutes to go.
