The Blue Bulls showed on Friday night that are a contender to lift the Currie Cup trophy in a few weeks time when they ran in eight tries to beat the Pumas 52-32.

That gave them a bonus point and almost assured a place in the semi-finals next week. Their faith is left in the match later on Saturday between the Golden Lions and the Free State Cheetahs.

The only way the Blue Bulls will be knocked out is if the Lions win and the Cheetahs gets two bonus points for a loss.

The Blue Bulls were full value for their win and whee playing some sensational rugby which also show off their handling skills with players running into space.

The Pumas was first to score and get on the board with a try from Jannie Stander but it was immediately counter with one from the Blue Bulls when Marutlulle ran like wing down the line to score in the corner.

The Pumas was successful with a penalty to take the lead again but the Bulls came back yet again when Ivan van Zyl score their next try.

The Blue Bulls started to dominate the later part of the half with two great tries from Gelant and Ismaiel to end teh half the stronger.

Gelant’s five-pointer was a superb individual effort where he stabbed a grubber kick through which he regathered before crossing the whitewash.

The second half went the Blue Bulls way with Van Staden and Odendaal scoring for the them before Engelbrecht got one over for the Pumas.

That did not stop the Blue Bulls momentum with Ismaiel again visiting the Pumas goal line and Jackson scoring not long after that.

The Pumas never gave up and scored a late try by Gavor and Herne but it was not good enough against the Blue Bulls on the night.
